Types of Operation for IRP

IRP accommodates registration for three types of motor carrier operations.

For Hire:

Transports passengers or property for compensation.

Private

Transports its own property.

Rental:

Rents to others or offers for rental, vehicles with or without drivers. Rental companies engaging in the business of renting or leasing vehicles in Virginia for a period of less than one year are required to register with DMV for the payment of rental tax.
