DMV Offices Closed for Independence Day
Holiday Travelers Reminded to Drive Carefully and Buckle Up
RICHMOND - All Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) customer service centers (CSC) will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in observance of Independence Day.
Throughout summer vacation season, DMV, the Virginia Highway Safety Office, urges Virginians to slow down, drive carefully, use safety belts, and arrive safely at your destination. If you are traveling, remember that it's not just a good idea to wear a safety belt, it's the law. A motorist or a passenger is twice as likely to die or sustain serious injury in a crash if unbelted.
"In nearly half of our highway fatalities so far this year, the victims weren't wearing a safety belt," said DMV Commissioner D.B. Smit. "You can help save lives by making certain everyone in your car is buckled up at all times."
Even though DMV is closed on Independence Day, DMV service is available.

Renew your vehicle registration, update your record instantly and print a receipt to carry with your registration card until your new card and decals arrive in the mail.
- Arrive at your destination early to avoid nighttime driving.
- Stop and rest at least every two hours to avoid driver fatigue.
- Avoid driver distractions, especially using a cell phone while driving.
- Don't drink and drive. And use caution when taking medications, especially those which might make you drowsy or sleepy.
"We hope all Virginians as well as visitors to our state have a safe, enjoyable and crash-free holiday weekend," said Smit.
