DMV Offices Closed for Independence Day
Customers Reminded to Use the Internet for Routine Transactions
RICHMOND - All Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) customer service centers (CSCs) will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2008 in observance of Independence Day. CSCs open on Saturdays will re-open for service on Saturday, July 5. For a list of DMV customer service center locations and their operational hours, go to www.dmvNOW.com.
Customers may still conduct a variety of transactions on the Fourth of July, and on any holiday, by using DMV's preferred service options. "DMV is committed to offering customers a variety of convenient alternatives to visiting a customer service center," said DMV Commissioner D. B. Smit. Customers may complete 25 different transactions online.
"Virginians should visit our website to renew their decals," Smit said. Customers save money and time by renewing their vehicle registrations online. A new law that takes effect July 1 awards customers who renew online a $1 discount, and those who renew in DMV CSCs pay an additional $5 fee for each vehicle registration renewal transaction. "The new law will help reduce future DMV operational costs by allowing employees to focus on more complex transactions that must be handled in person," Smit said.
DMV offers additional preferred service options. Customers may conduct transactions via mail and avoid the $5 in-person vehicle registration renewal fee. DMV's automated telephone service (1-888-337-4782) can be used for a variety of transactions while also avoiding the $5 in-person vehicle renewal fee.
Another way to avoid the $5 fee is to renew at one of 54 DMV Selects throughout Virginia. DMV Selects are contractual partners who provide select DMV services, such as decal renewals. Visit www.dmvNOW.com for a list of DMV Select locations.
