Board of Transportation Safety

In 1978, the General Assembly established the Board of Transportation Safety in place of the Highway Safety Commission. The major difference between the Commission and the Board was that the Board now serves in an advisory capacity to the Governor, Secretary of Transportation and the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), who is appointed as Virginia's Highway Safety Representative.
